We are very proud to have received the School Games Platinum Award for the second year running.

The Platinum award is the highest School Games Award available – with very few schools having being awarded this so far – and requires schools to have achieved the School Games Gold Award for the previous four consecutive years.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are committed to delivering a broad, balanced, and fully inclusive PESSPA curriculum that breaks down barriers and fosters a lifelong love of physical activity, not just sport.

Our PE curriculum aims to develop and refine fundamental skills, ensuring children build confidence and competence over time rather than simply ‘moving through units’. Our high-quality PE provision aligns with the KS2 National Curriculum and aims to develop every child's social, physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. Rooted in the values of respect, resilience, and responsibility, our Physical Education curriculum will give students the opportunity to:

  • Develop motor competence, refining fundamental movement skills through a wide range of activities.

  • Apply tactics and strategies in competitive games/situations, learning the importance of teamwork, resilience, and decision-making.

  • Be part of a team enhancing their collaboration and communication skills while showing respect for their peers and opponents.

  • Develop a healthy, lifelong love of physical activity, underpinned by respect for their own well-being and fueled by confidence.

  • Engage in a variety of sporting opportunities taking responsibility for their participation and personal improvement.

  • Evaluate their own progress and success, reflecting on their performance, setting personal goals, and identifying ways to improve their skills and understanding.

  • Swim confidently using a rage of strokes and performing self-rescue techniques proficiently.

As part of our PE curriculum, we offer inclusive PE sessions which are designed to support SEN, disadvantaged children, and those working below (ARE). Teachers identify pupils who may need additional help to meet success criteria, and these children attend weekly sessions. his approach aligns with the school values of responsibility, resilience, and respect, fostering a supportive environment where every child can thrive. Lessons are closely aligned with the school’s LTP for PE, ensuring continuity with the whole school curriculum. Additionally, these lessons are supported by 1:1 or support staff, who gain valuable insights into effective strategies to assist these children during regular PE lessons. The STEP approach (Space, Task, Equipment, and People) is central to the pedagogy, allowing for flexible adaptations that meet diverse needs. These sessions not only focus on developing physical skills but also on the holistic development that PE provides, enhancing cognitive, social, and emotional well-being.

Our inclusive School Sport offer aims to give all children an opportunity to represent the school in sports festivals, competitions or events over their time with us in the upper and/or lower keystage. We offer opportunities for all pupils, ensuring inclusivity throughout our entire PESSPA offer including targeted events from PP, SEND, Girls Only and children with a low physical activity participation rate. Due to our rigorous approach, we have had success in both JMAT events, Rotherham School Games organised events and even county events.

Physical Activity is also at the heart of what we do. Our active playtimes have been recognised by Rotherham School Games and The Yorkshire Sport Foundation for the opportunities we offer - organised sports, indoor spaces, quiet reading spaces, scooter tracks among a range of other inclusive activities all designed by pupil voice. We host active travel weeks each half term, where a team of JRSO's (Junior Road Safety Officers) conduct walking buses from within our local area to reduce emissions outside of school, improve safety and work towards 60m of moderate activity per day.
